MLR worked long and hard on this cover. The first draft didn’t have the tone to match the story. I’m really happy with how it turned out. From the first couple paragraphs this story has felt very special for me. I’ve had a lot of really tight deadlines this year and being able to produce under deadlines has never worked for me in the past, but there was something about these boys and the world that kept me going.
I write a lot of characters that have a lot of specialties that I spend a lot of my time researching before hand, but because the main character is a writer, it was so easy to have an unreliable narrator tell his story and be perfectly truthful about what he wanted to have happened until he was willing to face the truth of what did actually happen.
